The TRAGER® Approach to Psychophysical Integration
The primary objective of The Trager® Approach to Movement is the experience of easeful, and pain free movement. Using hands on, gentle, rhythmic and non-intrusive movements the practitioner works within the range of movement that is pleasurable releasing unneeded tension and pain. This movement with ease awakens the mind/body to possibilities, re-educating the tissue into a new way of moving.
People seek Trager® for relaxation, personal growth or an increased feeling of joy and wellness, as well as relief from a wide range of conditions such as: neck and back pain, stress, everyday aches and pains, headaches, anxiety, depression, emotional or physical trauma, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, post polio syndrome, Parkinson’s disease, carpal tunnel syndrome, fibromyalgia, sports and other injuries.
A Trager® session lasts one to one and a half hours. There are two parts to a Trager session. On the table, the client is passive while the practitioner gently moves the body. No oils or lotions are used; the client can be fully clothed or dress down to his/her comfort level, with a minimum of underwear. The practitioner may also offer Mentastics, which are simple movement suggestions that the client can do for themselves off the table, reinforcing and building on the table experience.
Trager® offers a sense of fluidity and peace. The Trager® Approach honors how the body can move, no matter how restricted the movement is. The body responds to this recognition with profound relaxation, increased range of motion, mental clarity, a sense of deep care and self-awareness.
A Certified Trager® Practitioner completes a very comprehensive training program through the Trager® Institute. Continuing education and evaluation are required on an annual basis.
